Excellence in Fibers

Selected works will appear in the Third Annual Excellence in Fibers catalog which will be presented to curators and directors of 300+ museums and galleries that feature fiber work and a select group of fiber and fine craft collectors. It will be integrated into the special expanded winter issue of Fiber Art Now, a subscriber-supported publication that also is sold on over 400 Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, and Dick Blick newsstands in the US, Chapters Books in Canada, and select newsstands in the UK.

All work that is juried into the exhibition will be invited to be shown at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles October 19, 2018-January 13, 2019. Note that work does not have to be available for the exhibition to be juried into Excellence in Fibers, and the jurying process will not be impacted by availability. If artist work has been sold or is otherwise unavailable and is selected by the juror, it will still be shown in the magazine, showcased on the newsstands, sent to curators and executive directors of fine craft-related museums and galleries, and given ongoing exposure. Note that Fiber Art Now regularly consults the EIF artists for consideration as featured artists in the magazine throughout the year.

embodiment

The Pittsburgh Glass Center and the Three Rivers Glass Beadmakers (a chapter of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers) invite you to submit your work to the first jewelry and wearables exhibit ever at the Pittsburgh Glass Center.

One of the earliest artistic uses of glass was the making of glass beads. Modern glass beadmakers use many techniques and materials that were not available to their ancient cousins. This juried show invites all glass artists – flameworkers, coldworkers, fusers, blowers, and more – to submit their work. It can be anything, but it must be wearable.

The theme for this exhibit is embodiment, meaning a tangible or visible form of a specific idea, quality or feeling. Part of the submission that will be considered by the judges will be the artist's vision of this theme in glass. The concept for their piece, as explained by the artist in their submission, will be exhibited with the work.

Bridge
All active members of SAQA's Oregon region are invited to submit entries to our juried show

Exhibit Concept:
Oregon is a state filled with bridges ranging from the mythological Bridge of the Gods to the contemporary Tilikum Crossing. The concept of "Bridge", though, is much broader. A bridge can be the symbolic image of chrysalis to butterfly. Bridges are a connection and a link. They are bonds and pathways—both physical and emotional—between people and things. A bridge joins and unites. It spans time and traverses space. It reconciles differences creating harmony. It represents progress, stability, hope and transition. We invite artists to submit work that reflects the theme of "Bridge" either in a representational or abstract interpretation.
